Field Organizer

(ACLU) Foundation of Florida seeks an Immigrants’ Rights Organizer. This position is located in the organization’s Orlando office, but includes some travel. The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Florida is an affiliate of the national ACLU, a national public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights. For nearly 100 years, the ACLU has served as the nation’s primary protector of the liberties that define our democracy. The organization implements its vital civil liberties mission in all 50 states in large part through affiliate entities such as the ACLU of Florida. Operating out of four offices-Miami (main), Tampa, Pensacola, and Jacksonville-the Florida affiliate has a budget of over $8 million and 55 staff members, placing it among the larger ACLU affiliates in the nation. The ACLU of Florida, the state’s largest civil rights and civil liberties organization, employs litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education to protect and promote a broad range of constitutional values and individual rights, such as freedom of speech, racial justice, right to privacy, religious liberty, criminal justice reform, voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, disability rights, and immigrants’ rights. The ACLU of Florida litigates a broad range of complex constitutional cases in federal and state courts through direct representation, filing amicus briefs, and submitting administrative complaints to state and federal agencies. Position_Overview The immigrants’ Rights Organizer is a staff position within the Affiliate’s Field Department. The position reports to the Field Director. Primary_Responsibilities

• Execute effective multi-disciplinary advocacy campaigns to advance civil

liberties utilizing a combination of advocacy and organizing strategies

• Develop, strengthen, and nurture alliances and work in coalition with

communities of color, chapters, youth groups, faith communities, social

services providers, medical providers, educators, and other advocacy groups

• Recruit and train community leaders, chapters, and volunteers in support

of immigrants’ rights campaigns

• Plan and manage events to raise visibility and support for the campaign
• Develop strategy and field organizing activities for advocacy campaigns,

in collaboration with chapters and activist volunteers

• Elevate the stories and experiences of impacted communities and

individuals, ensuing that the interests and vision of impacted immigrants

and the broader community are reflected in campaigns

• Organize, lead, and participate in community education events, rallies,

and meetings

• Develop advocacy materials including fact sheets, toolkits, action

alerts, blog posts, and social media content in collaboration with the

Communications Director

• Provide Know Your Rights trainings for impacted communities and

individuals, employers, educators, medical providers, educators, etc.

• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the workplace;

using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects

differences in regards to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance

• Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving

obstacles and/or conflicts

• Meet quantitative goals for event building, volunteer contact and

recruitment

• Other duties as assigned

Desired_Qualifications While no one person will have all the qualities enumerated below, the successful candidate will bring many of the following qualifications and attributes:

• History of living in or working with immigrant communities, preferably in

Florida.

• Fluency in a language other than English (Spanish or Haitian Creole

strongly preferred)

• Experience in community/field organizing and base building that uses a

« snowflake » organizing model preferred.

• A history of working collaboratively and successfully with people and

organizations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and broad range

of ideological positions and religious views.

• Experience with passing local municipality ordinances
• Commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done

even in the face of obstacles

• Ability to work on fast-paced campaigns with many moving pieces and

ability to adapt to changing circumstances

• Self-starting and willing to learn
• Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to oversee

volunteers and leaders

• Ability to travel across the state, as necessary, and participate in

occasional evening and weekend meetings

• Unwavering commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU, including a

demonstrated commitment to racial justice and civil rights issues
