Meta is seeking a Research Engineer to join our Large Language Model (LLM) Research team. We are looking for recognized experts in NLP, with experience in areas like large model training; reinforcement learning; LLM alignment; explainable AI; language model evaluation; multilingual and multimodal modeling; and/or responsible data processing. We are looking for someone to play an active role in the maintenance of our main training codebase and that can help further advance its engineering excellence and indentify progression paths. The ideal candidate will have an interest in producing and applying new science to help us more responsibly develop and deploy large language models.

Software Engineer, Language – Generative AI Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate, and execute on research that pushes forward the state of the art in responsible large language model research
  • Directly contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results
  • Develop methodology and tools to monitor and improve our training stack health
  • Work with a large and globally distributed team
  • Define the different engineering and research improvement paths that are necessary to train LLMs at scale

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher position
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI in Python models and datasets
  • Publications in machine learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and maintaining codebases
  • Experience with low level engineering (C++, C, Rust or CUDA)
