The Department of Psychology, within the College of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to work in the Health Promotion and Care (HPAC) lab under the supervision of Dr. Marc Puccinelli and Dr. Steven Safren. The Research Associate will be responsible for assisting with various studies related to HIV prevention and treatment; with a particular focus on local studies of HIV prevention among gay/bisexual and other men who have sex with men. The RA will work on currently funded projects and may work on grant proposal and preparation work for future projects. The Research Associate’s primary responsibility would be on the Lifesteps for PrEP project, with work on other ongoing projects as needed. The RA will collaborate closely with a nurse interventionist on all aspects of the study, including conducting active recruitment in PrEP clinics, retention, data management, screening and assessment of participants, and running study visits. The RA may be required to perform blood draws for study procedures, and accordingly, may need to complete a phlebotomy course after starting if not already certified. The RA may need to travel to an off-site office near the University of Miami medical campus for outreach and other recruitment duties. Information about all of HPAC’s ongoing studies, all of which are related to HIV/AIDS (prevention and treatment), can be found at The applicant should demonstrate, preferably through previous experience, a strong interest in LGBT health. In this case, the study primarily focuses on an HIV prevention intervention for men who have sex with men, and therefore familiarity with this community and the needs of this community would be an important asset to the position. The applicant should be comfortable working with individuals with diverse backgrounds on issues related to sexuality, substance use, and mental health. There are times when this position will require evening hours. Please include a cover letter with your application materials.   • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, or related field
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) to serve research population
  • Prior research experience preferred
