The Role

As Software Engineering Manager II, you will have the technical expertise to define, scope, refine and deliver major projects. You will use your skills to provide technical leadership for these projects and also to manage a team of Engineers to meet the goals you set.

You will have responsibility to set and manage your team’s goals, contribute to product strategy and align with other teams. You will understand and optimize overall team  performance and help individuals to develop under your leadership.

Beyond your skills and responsibilities to deliver world class technical solutions, you will have a passion and responsibility to understand user, customer and participant needs. You will use this understanding to improve and extend Castor’s products with a focus on how this will positively impact user experiences.

Compliance with industry  standards is an essential part of Castor’s business, you will have a responsibility to understand, manage, operate and develop processes and approaches that continuously improve the team’s quality, traceability and efficiency within these standards.

 


What you’ll focus on

 

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support Castor’s broader goals.
  • Align strategy, processes and decision making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations for individuals in the team, based on their role and experience. Meet on a regular basis to discuss performance and provide feedback and coach to aid growth and development.
  • Hire strong team members and manage performance to ensure that the team grows and improves.
  • Provide expert knowledge in software engineering practices, processes and tools to enable your team to deliver, ensuring high standards of quality, excellent communication and timely delivery.
  • Drive the execution of projects, including overseeing the whole development lifecycle from planning to production delivery.
  • Drive and maintain a technical roadmap within the scope of the team and align with other teams.
  • Design or guide, then review and approve the technical approaches, risks and appropriateness of solutions for the team.
  • Involve yourself in definition, design and code where appropriate to solve complex or ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by engineers in the team and provide feedback to ensure best practice.
  • Define and iterate team practices to ensure quality, accuracy, testability, maintainability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have impact at the Castor organizational level.
  • Manage, operate, develop and support the compliance processes within the scope of the team.



What you’ll bring

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Typescript, C# and/or PHP/Python)
  • 3 years of technical leadership and project delivery experience in a cloud native environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing cross-functional technical teams, including hiring, performance management, engineering growth and career planning.
  • Demonstrated understanding of system design in a cloud native environment
  • An understanding of software engineering and system engineering  best practices to achieve scalable, maintainable, high quality, software and services
