Meta is seeking Research Interns to join our Textless NLP team in Paris, France. This team is part of the Facebook AI Research (FAIR) organization within Meta, working to build models that learn language like pre-schoolers do, ie, from sensory data, before having access to any text. The opportunities of this work are immense. The previously separated fields of NLP and speech have made tremendous progress thanks to deep learning and are now in a position to merge, yielding language models that can be learned from raw audio, leveraging the richness and expressivity of the oral language. The challenges are also immense due to the variability and noisy nature of the speech signal compared to text, but also due to the expressivity of speech which raises novel problems for evaluation and responsible AI. As a Research Intern, you will help us apply, analyze and improve speech-based large language models (sLLMs) and other cutting-edge machine learning methods to solve these challenges. The duration of this internship is 16 weeks with Summer, Fall, and Winter start dates. Internships will be awarded on a rolling basis and candidates are encouraged to apply early.
