Facebook is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Facebook AI Research, a research organization focused on making fundamental progress in AI. Facebook AI Research (FAIR) conducts cutting-edge research to deepen our understanding of existing AI methods and advance the state-of-the-art.For this position, the applicant will engage with the supervisor and other researchers in Facebook AI Research (FAIR) to develop and implement research agenda, publish world-class research works, and make external impact. You will apply high standards to the research and develop an ability to identify highly impactful projects in a complex and unexplored domain. You will be able to gain valuable experience in a top-tier research institute, publish academic papers on a regular basis, and build your reputation across the world. Postdoc research areas may include Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Speech & Audio, Conversational AI, Theory, Reinforcement Learning, Robotics, Graphics, Human & Machine Intelligence, in particular, social impact of such fields and responsible AI will be a cross-sectional theme regardless of the specific area of study.Postdoc positions are one year fixed-term positions, and we have opportunities across several regions. We will interview during the following hiring windows in 2022.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Artificial Intelligence (PhD) Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on topics in responsible AI, fairness, robustness, transparency and social impact of AI technologies.
  • Contribute to understanding and auditing existing machine learning models using a range of techniques ranging from research surveys to algorithmic and technical developments.
  • Write and debug high-quality research code and research papers.
  • High quality papers and present research at conferences.
  • Collaborate with your supervisor and other researchers to discuss, develop and implement research agenda
  • Design and implement experiments to test research ideas on a variety of problems in responsible AI.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in Computer Science or a similar field, candidates with social science background who have demonstrated a deep technical knowledge in areas statistics and machine learning. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Research background in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Speech, Robotics, Graphics, or similar field. Deep interest in cross-disciplinary communication towards conducting research in socio-technical systems and responsible AI.
  • Experience solving analytical problems using analytic and quantitative approaches.
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Experience coding in C/C++, Python, C#, or other similar language.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, or fellowships, as well as publications in FAccT, AIES, *ACL, as well as affinity workshops at machine learning conferences (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML).
  • Research and engineering experience demonstrated via grants, fellowships, patents, internships, work experience, and/or coding competitions.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, trade-offs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
