We are looking for a stellar Senior International Accountant to join our team!  Reporting to the International Tax and Accounting Manager based in Brazil, you will be a trusted partner, working with various aspects of the finance department, including taxes, general ledger accounting, monthly reporting, accounting operations, systems, and audit.  You will build strong relationships across all departments in the Company, instilling a culture of strong communication and partnership with finance.  This position will coordinate closely with our finance teams in the USA as well as Degreed personnel in Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and India.

This is a full-time remote role and the position can be based in one of these following locations – USA, Brazil, Netherlands, UK, or France.

Day in the Life

  • Close subsidiary financial statements on a monthly basis in accordance with US GAAP. Understand the transactions required to conform local GAAP financial statements to US GAAP and vice versa.
  • Process vendor and payroll invoices and payments. Monitor and manage international cash, including forecasting subsidiary funding requirements.
  • Review reconciliations, allocations, consolidations and intercompany transactions.
  • International billing, including review of finance clauses within vendor and customer contracts.
  • Provide support for statutory accounts to external advisors and perform detailed review.
  • Regulatory accounting, audits, and transactional accounting, as needed. Complete external audit requests by analyzing general ledger accounts and providing information to auditors.
  • Setup of international entities and preparation of company secretarial filings, as needed.
  • Manage the relationship with the external tax, accounting and compliance advisers, monitoring progress on the various projects that are ongoing.
  • Preparation of support to be provided to external tax advisers for all tax related returns including corporate, VAT/GST and employment tax filings. Review of returns to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure transfer pricing policies and documentation is maintained. Prepare transfer pricing calculations and intercompany invoices.
  • Maintain tax compliance controls and processes. Proactively research indirect and international tax laws.
  • Reconcile tax balance sheet accounts (indirect tax, payroll tax & corporation tax).
  • Document and improve processes and internal controls.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • This is an extraordinary opportunity for a Senior International Accountant with two to five years of accounting and tax experience, ideally beginning in audit, accounting or tax within a large or mid-tier accounting practice, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to key stakeholders.
  • NetSuite experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of SOX would be beneficial.
  • Degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA or Chartered Accountant preferred.
  • SaaS software experience highly preferred.
  • Exposure to international tax, accounting and compliance in any of the following areas and countries would be very helpful: USA, Europe (particularly the UK and Netherlands), India, Australia, Singapore, Canada, South Africa and Brazil.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and written, is required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high growth environment.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated but a strong and collaborative communicator.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or flex work if you live in a city with a physical office location (when it is safe to return to the office). This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a laptop computer (PC or Mac available), computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary.  Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
